SUMMARY:Revising the UDDA: Why we tried, why we failed, where do we go fro

DESCRIPTION:Breakout Session\n\nAriane Lewis (NYU Langone Medical Center)\
 n\nThe Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA) identifies two legal way 
 to declare death: death by circulatory-respiratory criteria or brain death
 /death by neurologic criteria (BD/DNC).  Due to concerns identified by mul
 tidisciplinary experts, a Drafting Committee to Revise the UDDA was empane
 led in 2021.  I served as an observer on the Committee and provided conten
 t expertise related to BD/DNC.  In September 2023, the revision process wa
 s put on an indefinite pause.  Members of the neurocritical care community
  should understand the shortcomings of the UDDA relative to BD/DNC determi
 nation.  In this session, I will review why we tried to facilitate UDDA re
