SUMMARY:Precision Pediatric Neurocritical Care: Genetic Diagnoses and Quan
 titative EEG for Tailored Therapies"
DESCRIPTION:Breakout Session\n\nCraig Press (Children's Hospital of Philad
elphia)\n\nIn the rapidly evolving field of pediatric neurocritical care,
the integration of genetic diagnoses and quantitative EEG (qEEG) is paving
the way for precision medicine. We will explore the latest advancements u
sing case vignettes to highlight how rapid or known genetic testing allows
for a more accurate diagnosis and prognosis and tailored therapies contri
buting to improved outcomes. Concurrently, we will examine how qEEG can be
used to both monitor and measure cerebral function but also identify tren
ds in seizure responsiveness that otherwise are difficult to identify. \n\
nOur discussion will begin with an examination of gain-of-function sodium
channelopathies (SCN2A & SCN8A), which are some of the most common cause o
f early genetic epilepsies and can be targeted with sodium channel drugs.
Cases presented will highlight how early diagnosis can improve seizure c
ontrol with aggressive dosing regimens targeting high or "supra" therapeut
ic levels. \n\nNext, the session will cover the role of qEEG in monitoring
the efficacy of seizure therapies. Attendees will learn how real-time bra
in activity data can inform adjustments to treatment plans, ensuring that
each child receives the most effective therapy based on their unique neuro
physiological responses. \n\nFinally, we will delve into the prognostic va
lue of qEEG following cardiac arrest in children. New data continues stren
gthen the link between qEEG features (e.g., suppression ratio, and relativ
e beta, alpha and delta activity) and the likelihood of neurological recov
ery. These features many help families make informed decisions about care
and allow bedside providers to trend novel neuroprotective biomarkers.\n\
nTrack: Clinical Practice\n\nFocus Area: Coma, Multimodal Neuromonitoring
(invasive/non-invasive), Pediatric, Provider Education Topics (eg fellowsh
ip training, competency assessment, etc), Status Epilepticus\n\nTarget Aud
ience: Intermediate\n\nSession Chair: Mark Wainwright (University of Washi
 ngton, Seattle Childrens Hospital)
