SUMMARY:Neurocritical Care in Zambia: Unmet Needs and Opportunities for Ca
 pacity-Building
DESCRIPTION:Breakout Session\n\nMorgan Prust (Yale School of Medicine)\n\n
Dr. Prust will present on data collected from Zambia on the burden of crit
ical illness among neurology inpatients at Zambia’s primary referral hospi
tal, the availability and spectrum of ICU care, the key drivers of critica
l illness and in-hospital mortality, and the role of protocolized care for
prevention and early-recognition of life-threatening complications, as we
ll as decision-support tools for ICU triage. While these findings are spec
ifically derived from Zambia, they highlight issues that arise commonly in
low- and middle-income countries worldwide, and I’ll be sure to emphasize
the generalizability to other global contexts.\n\nTrack: Delivery, Qualit
y and Safety\n\nFocus Area: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Global Neuro
critical Care, Hospitalist Practice, Patient Education\n\nTarget Audience:
Intermediate, Advanced\n\nSession Chair: Sarah Livesay (Rush University,
 University of Washington)
