SUMMARY:Why “WHEN” is Important

  Gisele Sampaio Silva (HIAE/ UNIFESP)\n\nThe care of the patient in coma t
 echnical working group is focused on identifying best care practices for p
 atients with coma and disorders of consciousness. Specifically, what actio
 ns should neurocritical care practitioners use today? A vital part of unde
 rstanding the here-and-now of direct care interventions is to understand t
 hat which interventions should be used must be contextualized by temporal 
 variables. There number and range of interventions that have been demonstr
 ated to be helpful in neurocritical care is extensive and growing. Intuiti
 vely we all recognize the need to understand optimal timing of interventio
 ns. We would not administer tenecteplase 2 days after an ischemic stroke, 
 and we would not perform a hemicraniectomy as prophylaxis before the patie
 nt has an intracerebral hemorrhage. But, there is a pressing need to under
 stand the ‘when’ for interventions. When is the exact right moment in time
  for each intervention and how does the timing of interventions impact the
  outcome? This session will highlight the need for intervention timing res
